## How storage works in Couchdrop

Couchdrop lets you use your existing storage for managed file transfer, rather than requiring you to move files into a separate storage platform.

You can connect more than 30 storage providers, including SharePoint, Google Drive, Amazon S3, Azure Files, Dropbox, Wasabi, Windows file servers, and remote SFTP or FTP servers.

Once connected, Couchdrop can use those locations across SFTP, FTP, AS2, Mailboxes, Upload Links, Webhooks, Automations, and other file exchange workflows.

### Connect your own storage

Storage integrations connect Couchdrop directly to the storage platforms you already use.

Each integration appears in Couchdrop as a **Virtual Folder**, which maps a Couchdrop folder to the storage location behind it. This lets the same SharePoint folder, S3 bucket, file server, or other connected location be used across multiple transfer and workflow methods.

#### Zero-custody file transfer

When you connect your own storage, Couchdrop can transfer files directly to the storage you control.

Files do not need to be permanently stored in Couchdrop as part of the transfer. Couchdrop provides the secure transfer and workflow layer, while your existing storage remains where the files live.

This direct-to-storage model helps you avoid introducing another permanent copy of your files into the transfer process.

### Couchdrop Hosted Storage

Couchdrop also provides Hosted Storage if you do not want to connect your own storage.

Hosted Storage is backed by Amazon S3 and managed through Couchdrop. It provides the same Couchdrop file transfer experience, but Couchdrop manages the storage location rather than connecting to storage controlled by your organization.

### File Browser

The File Browser gives you a single view across your connected storage.

Storage integrations appear as folders, allowing you to browse, upload, and download files without switching between the underlying storage platforms. Each connected location uses the root folder selected when the storage integration was configured.
