# Enabling FTP/FTPS

Learn about enabling FTP access to Couchdrop

Compared to SFTP, FTP is comparatively buggy and insecure, so we do not recommend using it where there are other options. However, as there are not always other options, you can still choose to enable FTP and FTPS at the user level.

Unencrypted FTP is disabled by default. Users will need to be authorised to access Couchdrop via FTP

FTP/S will be enabled if you choose to create an FTPs user. To allow FTP capabilities after user creation, you will need to enable FTP/S for the user. 

## Enabling FTP/S

To enable FTP/FTPS access, you must be an administrator or the owner in Couchdrop. 

* Log in to Couchdrop's web app and go to the Admin Console
* In user management, choose the user you want to update and click to Edit. 
* Go to Access controls and choose **Allow FTP/FTPs**

This setting will activate immediately.
