# FAQs

Common questions and answers for Couchdrop

### Can you access my data?

Couchdrop support may access **file metadata and platform logs** when required for troubleshooting and support. This does not mean support staff can routinely view the contents of your files.

Couchdrop engineering staff have access to the underlying platform infrastructure, including metadata, logs, and information about the storage locations used for file transfers.

Encryption keys required to decrypt protected data are stored separately in a key-management escrow service operated by Doppler.

You can prevent Couchdrop employees from accessing your account through the Couchdrop application by disabling support access under **Administration > Security**.

If you contact Couchdrop Support while employee access is disabled, the support team may ask you to temporarily enable access or join a screen-sharing session so they can troubleshoot the issue with you.

### Does Couchdrop lockout users after to many failed attempts?

Yes. Couchdrop can lock accounts after repeated failed authentication attempts.

### Where is my data stored?

Couchdrop stores platform configuration and metadata in the United States using Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Your **file data is different**. When you connect your own storage to Couchdrop, files remain in the storage platform you have selected rather than being moved into Couchdrop for permanent storage.

### Do I have to connect my own storage?

No. Couchdrop includes [Couchdrop-hosted storage](/storage/hosted-storage.md) backed by AWS, so you can use the platform without connecting a separate storage provider.

You can also connect your existing storage, such as SharePoint, AWS S3, Azure, Google Drive, or other supported platforms. Connected storage appears within Couchdrop through its virtual filesystem, while the files themselves remain in the connected storage platform.
