# Missing Upload Detection

Learn how Missing Upload Detection works in Couchdrop

## Overview

Missing Upload Detection helps identify when an expected file has not arrived.

Couchdrop learns the recent upload pattern for Users, Mailboxes, Webhooks, and AS2 Stations. If uploads normally arrive during a particular hour each day but no upload arrives during that hour, Couchdrop can send an email alert.

This is useful for recurring file exchanges where a missing delivery may otherwise go unnoticed.

### How Missing Upload Detection works

Couchdrop evaluates uploads once an hourly window has completed.

For example, if the current time is **11:13 AM**, Couchdrop checks activity between **10:00 AM and 11:00 AM**.

A missing upload alert is triggered when both of the following are true:

* There were **0 uploads during the previous hour**.
* There was **at least one upload during that same hourly window on every day for the previous 7 days**.

For example, if a User received at least one upload between **10:00 AM and 11:00 AM** every day for the last seven days, but receives no uploads during that period today, Couchdrop will detect the missing upload.

Detection applies independently to:

* Users
* Mailboxes
* Webhooks
* AS2 Stations

Mailboxes normally receive files as email attachments into a selected storage location, so Missing Upload Detection can help identify when a recurring email delivery does not arrive as expected.

## Notifications

When Couchdrop detects a missing upload, it sends an email to the recipient configured in the account's alerting settings.

If no alert recipient has been configured, Couchdrop sends the notification to the **account owner**.

Couchdrop sends one notification for each affected User, Mailbox, Webhook, or AS2 Station. After an alert has been sent for that item, another Missing Upload Detection notification will not be sent for it for **7 days**.

This prevents repeated alerts for the same missing-upload condition.

## Enable or disable Missing Upload Detection

Missing Upload Detection is enabled by default.

To change this setting:

1. Open the **Admin Panel**.
2. Navigate to the **Alerting** page.
3. Find **Alert on missing uploads**.
4. Enable or disable the checkbox as required.

The setting applies at the account level.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.couchdrop.io/administration/alerts-and-notifications/missing-upload-detection.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
