# File Activity Alerts

File Activity Alerts notify you when file operations occur in Couchdrop.

## Overview

Couchdrop can send alerts when file activity or transfer failures occur.

File activity alerts can be configured globally across your Couchdrop account or for a specific folder. Depending on the event, notifications can be delivered by email or webhook.

{% hint style="info" %}

### Webhook delivery

Couchdrop expects notification webhook endpoints to return an HTTP `200` response.

If Couchdrop does not receive an HTTP `200` response, it retries the webhook up to 15 times using exponential backoff.

For more advanced webhook-based workflows, use File Actions.
{% endhint %}

### Global or folder alerts

Use **Global File Activity Alerts** when you want visibility across the account.

Use **Folder File Activity Alerts** when notifications should only apply to a particular folder or directory structure.

You can use both where required. For example, you might configure global failure alerts for operational monitoring while sending upload notifications from a specific customer folder to another recipient.

## Supported file activity events

Couchdrop supports alerts for the following file events:

<table data-search="false"><thead><tr><th>Event</th><th>Email</th><th>Webhook</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Upload</strong></td><td>Yes</td><td>Yes</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Download</strong></td><td>Yes</td><td>Yes</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Failure</strong></td><td>Yes</td><td>Yes</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Deletion</strong></td><td>No</td><td>Yes</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Rename</strong></td><td>No</td><td>Yes</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Storage Failure</strong></td><td>Yes</td><td>No</td></tr></tbody></table>

The available events depend on whether you configure the alert globally or on a specific folder.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.couchdrop.io/administration/alerts-and-notifications/file-activity-alerts.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
